My name is Luke Marshall, I'm a full time professional photographer and videographer based in Nelson, NZ. This was my first roll with the Minolta Hi-Matic 7s.

I'd heard stories about how crazy accurate its metering system is and I'd never used a rangefinder with the EV number style. Rather than showing shutter speeds or f-stop values in the viewfinder it shows exposure values. Whatever the needle points to, line up the shutter speed and aperture rings on the lens barrel and off ya go mate! Needless to say I was tad nervous setting out with a fresh spool of Fomapan 200 loaded.

Nervousness increased when I realised halfway through that I'd left the ISO set at 100 rather than box value. Whoops. I shouldn't have worried - shooting exactly what the camera was telling me to produced some great contrasty images - if a touch more grainy than I would've liked!

Shooting time was between 9am and 11am at various spots. I tried to pick out high contrasty light and I'm a big fan of buildings with louvered windows and panel lines, symmetrical shapes and roof lines.

The camera itself is super solid - similar feel to a Yashica Electro 35 GSN and the weight is perfect in the hand. It takes a bit to get used to the EV system and matching arrow marks on the lens barrel can get a bit fiddly but after seeing the results my feeling is there's a lot less guesswork in getting a correct exposure than other rangefinders out there. Pretty stoked to be fair!
