First Roll With: Minolta Capios 25 Point & Shoot by Winnie Liu

Hi, my name is Winnie Liu and I am a twenty-three-year-old student from Sydney. I have been shooting film since I was in high school and I will never forget the feeling of getting my first roll developed. I was outside Paxtons and I waited the 2 hours they quoted (I arrived 30 minutes earlier, you know, just in case!). I remember sitting on the bench outside the shop and flipping through the photos and smiling at each memory. That grin on my face should be in the dictionary under "true happiness". 

So, my brother bought me the Minolta Capios 25 when we were on a month-long trip together in Asia. (He also had bought me a really nice digital one just before the trip so I guess I can say I am a little spoilt. Shout out to my brother Nathan!) We were in a district in Tokyo with a lot of secondhand stores and I spotted this little golden point-and-shoot. As you can probably tell from my Instagram, I go to the beach A LOT. I am usually looking for cameras that I can take around with me out and about and are not too precious. Naturally, Nathan being the kind, big brother following classic East Asian culture, he bought me the Minolta and here is my first roll with it!

There are not many things I can say about the mechanics of this camera since it is nothing too fancy. But there is one feature that stands out! The Capios 25 has a fancy little lever that switches the camera to panoramic mode. I only really found out about this feature half-way through the roll and you can probably spot it. The lever basically squashes the height of the image so it appears longer. It almost imitates the holy Xpan, which is something I cannot afford right now. Did I say I was a poor student in my bio? Anyways, I "j'adore" the panoramic format and have continued to use it. All the other features are quite standard for a film point-and-shoot.
