We have known of Leica's more affordable line of compact cameras for a while now, however didn't get to meet one in person until mid 2018. Our first encounter being the Leica C2 Zoom sold here along with our first test roll with it in Japan, and the second being the Leica C3.
Some quick specs about the C3:
Production period 2002-2005.
Lens - 28–80 mm f/3.6–7.9 LEICA VARIO-ELMAR ASPH. (8 elements in 6 groups) - shares evidently the same Vario-Elmar zoom lens as the Leica Minilux Zoom.
Fully automatic point and shoot.
More details stuff here.
We were pretty excited to get our hands on the C3, probably because it felt like we scored a rare Pokemon at the time, haha. Now, without further adieu, here are some shots from our first roll with the Leica C3, shot on Lomography Film 800.
Testing the flash during day and night. The C3 let's you manually adjust the flash feature via a "mode" button on its top panel, giving you some control on whether you prefer to have the flash on, off or on auto. Always appreciate a point and shoot with this feature to avoid that awkward flash moment.
The second part of our roll took place in Blacktown, Sydney on an insane 40+ degree summer day during noon time. We drove all the way out west to meet with Musician and friend Blessed for a mini shoot and took turns using the C3 for some behind the scenes. Pleasantly surprised that the C3 handled the high noon sun very well, properly exposed and well-balanced shadows/highlight.
Overall, we enjoyed shooting with the C3 - lightweight, shoots fast, good for all situations, sharp lens (all were shot with 28mm no zoom), very simple to use and great flash - all packaged in a flash body. Size is not super compact that it's pocketable, but we like that the body is built sturdy and not prone to scratches, so it's a point and shoot that you don't need to be overly precious with, which is a tick in our box!
